PechaKucha
You can learn a lot about art in six minutes forty seconds! Twenty slides worth, in fact, say organizers of this event. Pecha Kucha started in Japan as a way for designers to share their work with others. The Chewelah Arts Guild adopted this speedy presentation format, so that viewers can get a taste of local artists’ work.
Each artist or group will share 20 slides about their art or event in less than seven minutes. This event is sponsored by Chewelah Arts Guild and the Independent. Bud Evans was inspired by this form of presentation after he attended a Pecha Kucha event at a dental convention. Evans searched around and found the closest Pecha Kucha event in Ellensburg, WA and decided to bring the concept to Chewelah. The fast pace allows for interest to build around art by providing exposure to many different artists in one evening.

Annual Quilt Show
Piecing, applique, needlework, and quilting have been used for several millennia across the world. Textile products traditionally associated with quilting include bed coverings, home furnishings, garments and costumes, wall hangings and cultural artifacts. Exceptional examples of all of these will be on display over Memorial Day weekend here in Chewelah at this year’s Quilt Show.

Children's Art Festival
The Children’s Art Festival is a day long event full of fun for kids in the Chewelah City Park as the Chewelah Arts Guild brings the arts to children in an activity-packed day. In past years children have made fabric water bottle carriers, tie-dyed shirts, created string paintings, learned sumi painting, practiced water color techniques, painted on easels and experienced interactive music movement all guided by Art Teachers. Art plus kids equals a great weekend. This annual event is fun for the whole family as parents watch and celebrate their children's creativity.
